TASCAM Portable Recorders with Embedded Wi-fi

Your SMARTPHONE or Wifi enabled tablet can now remotely control your Tascam Portable recorder via Wifi. Any of the TASCAM recording controls can be controlled over Wi-Fi. According to Robbie Blanco Wi-Fi transmission range is about 50 t0 60 feet. The Wi-fi is embeded in the recorder so there is no need for routers. This is beyond the reach of infrared remotes. The recorder can be placed wherever the recording sounds best. Audio can also be streamed over Wi-Fi to check the recording. Plug headphones into your smartphone and listen to a near-realtime feed from the remote recorder.

Today WiFi is in most modern cameras. Now Tascam has brought WiFi to portable audio recorders, enabling remote control from a smartphone, with instant uploading to the cloud and other features.

The Tascam DR-22WL ($149, two track) and DR-44WL ($299, four track) are Wi-Fi enabled portable audio recorders with stereo condenser microphone and multiple audio tracks. The DR-44WL can record both the internal microphones and through external XLR inputs simultaneously for a four-track recording.

IK MULTIMEDIA – IRIG HD-A for Android? SAMSUNG Yes! Google’s Nexus, NexT year?

android-at-ss_250_267IK Multimedia has been supporting Apple iPods, iPhones and iPads with both their standard headphone jack version and their IRIG HD version for several years. I personally still use the first IRIG version on my acoustic electric ukulele and Apple iPad mini for performances around town, works great. Now IK Multimedia offers IRIG HD-A for SAMSUNG, Musicians with Samsung devices running Samsung Professional Audio, like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge can connect their guitar or bass to their Android™ device and play the sounds of the most sought after amplifiers and effects from their smartphone. SAMSUNG has Now conquered the latency issues that has made the Apple ios products the one and only choice for Amplitude and IRIG Products.

How did SAMSUNG do it? If Google’s Programmers knew they would be coding it on their Google NEXUS products. I sure wish Google did know then i would not have to put up with the first 2 or 3 minutes of screeching & distortion i hear when I plug my IK Multimedia IRIG into my GOOGLE NEXUS. Garfitt Corp’s Guitar AMP is the company that is getting closer to bridging the gap between GOOGLE’S latency issues and the the IRIG. Are there any other devices similar to the IRIG that I
can plug my acoustic guitar or in my case my Ukulele into my NEXUS? If there are please let me know.

Garfitt Corp’s Guitar AMP also referred to as IR, has nothing to do with IK multimedia, and Guitar AMP has made
that very clear on their website and when you download the App.

IRIG
If you would like to experiment with Guitar Amp on your Nexus, download Guitar AMP with the IR logo from the Google Play store. IK MULTIMEDIA said they would have a Google Nexus IRIG HD product out by March. Last week when I called IK MULTIMEDIA they told me no IRIG HD products available for the Google Nexus. So sad now I will have to connect my IRIG to my iPad. Maybe Next year Google. Where did they ever get that name NEXUS? Didn’t Steve Jobs have a company called NexT computers?

New iPin Connects Via Micro USB To Turn Any Android Device Into A Laser Pointer And Wireless Presenter

iPin BTtogo Bluetooth USB Dongle Allows Any iOS/Android Device To Control Presentations On Any Public Computer With Zero Setup

Monday, January 5th, 2015 LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Sanho Corporation (CES 2015 LVCC North Hall iLounge Booth 5512) – the company behind the HYPER line of mobile accessories, in collaboration with Conary Enterprise, an opto-semiconductor company announces the launch of its Kickstarter campaign for 2 new iPin Laser Pointer and Wireless Presenter products to follow up on the award winning original iPin for iPhone.

Original iPin Laser Presenter for iOS

The original iPin is the world’s smallest laser pointer attachment for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. As the name suggest, it is as tiny as a pin which disappears completely into the audio jack of the iOS device with almost no protruding parts, turning the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch into a laser pointer and wireless presenter.

New iPin Laser Presenter for Android

The new iPin for Android connects to the micro USB port of compatible Android devices and just like the original iPin for iOS, it comes with a free app that can be downloaded from the Google Play store that turns the iPin connected Android device into a powerful laser pointer and wireless presenter. Through the free iPin app and WiFi connection, users can transform their Android devices into a fully featured presentation tool with intuitive gesture based controls to change presentation slides and move the mouse pointer on any Mac and PC computer.

New BTtogo Bluetooth USB Dongle

The new BTtogo adds another level of convenience to the iPin. Traveling to another office and presenting at another site may mean that WiFi connections are not guaranteed or firewalls may be in place. BTtogo solves the issue by allowing users to confidently connect their iPin enabled iOS or Android device to any computer for a reliable presentation, regardless of the WiFi or firewall settings. BTtogo features a USB connector that plugs into any Mac or PC computer and connects to the iPin enabled iOS or Android device via bluetooth with no host software required and almost zero setup. Users can store their presentation files on a micro SD memory card inserted into BTtogo to run presentations on any public computer, even with firewalls present.

HYPER is seeking $50,000 via Kickstarter to launch the 2 new iPin products. Funding begins January 5, 2015 at 8am PST/11am EST and ends on February 9, 2015. Upon successful funding, HYPER aims to ship the new iPin products in the same month of February 2015. Joe’s Grandma
Mary Ferreira Souza
October 23, 1905 to February 10, 2007
She was born in Portugal on the Island of Madeira. Mary moved to Maui, Hawaii at 6 months of age. The boat she sailed on had to come around the horn because the Panama Canal was not yet built. Later she moved to Oahu with her family and settled in Kalihi. She met and married Joseph N. Souza Sr. and together they lived in Kapahulu’u. Mary and Joe had one son, Joseph N. Souza II, Joe’s father. Joe the 2nd has since passed but enjoyed his life as a Honolulu Police Officer and husband to Olive Rodrigues Souza. They have 8 children and Joe is the youngest.

Joe’s Grandma, GiGi, loved him dearly and was always very proud of him. The ‘ukulele was a very important part of her life and she treasured the fact that Joe followed his heritage. GiGi lived a full life of 102 years. We are thankful for her encouragement and love.

history_image1

The ‘Ukulele (pronounced “oo-koo-le-le”) was introduced by Portuguese immigrants who migrated to Hawai’i. They were looking for new lives, but even more so, work.

The braguinha, or “machete de braga” as my ninety-five year old Portuguese Grandmother calls it, is still a hit on the island of Madiera in Portugal, where she is from. In late August of 1879, legend has it that the ‘ukulele first arrived in Hawai’i. Upon arrival in Honolulu, a musician named Joao Fernandes strummed his braguinha while singing Portuguese folksongs.

On one of the many ships that arrived in Honolulu Harbor from Portugal, there were three men: Augusto Dias, Jose do Espirito Santo and Manuel Nunes. All three were excellent craftsmen and they are credited with making the first true ‘Ukuleles.

King David Kalakaua can be attributed not only with the “Merrie Monarch”, our annual hula competition, but also the popularity boom of the ‘ukulele. King Kalakaua was an excellent composer and he loved playing his ‘ukulele. So, of course, he made playing the ‘ukulele very fashionable. The ‘ukulele grew in popularity. Prior to the ‘ukulele, Hawaiians relied mainly on percussion implements to accompany their hula and chant. Now, they had found a perfect way to accompany themselves melodically.

Today, as you well know, the ‘ukulele or uke is famous the world over. There are many well-known names that are associated with the ‘ukulele. Here in Hawai’i the ‘ukulele has had a major resurgence. It is not uncommon to see children playing their ukes at the beach, or at “The Bus” stop. The majority of accomplished musical groups in Hawai’i have at least one or two ‘ukulele players. Even in Japan the ‘ukulele has gained in popularity by leaps and bounds.

It gives me great honor to perpetuate both my Portuguese and Hawaiian ancestry, with this true woodworking piece of art, the ‘Ukulele!

I stole this from Joe Souza’s website but i had to include it here. I am saving money up for one of his ukuleles. Joe, My Grandma was from Galicia Spain, where they still speak old Portuguese.

Corning: Ceramic and Glass help insure smooth and balanced Audio

Corning, the world leader in specialty glass and ceramics, will be demonstrating its latest innovation to help the music industry create clear, crisp recordings at booth #1047 at NAMM. Please let me know if you would be interested in scheduling some time to speak with Corning at the show to learn more about this innovation.

Corning will showcase Optical Cables by Corning, which connect computers and peripherals at speeds up to 5 Gb/s through USB or up to 10 Gb/s through Thunderbolt™ technology and up to 20 Gb/s through Thunderbolt 2. Utilizing cutting-edge optical fiber technology, there is no electromagnetic interference (EMI) with the cables, helping to ensure a smooth and balanced audio track.

Optical Cables by Corning maintain high-data transfer speeds over much longer distances than the three meters allowed by traditional copper cables. Optical Cables by Corning reach distances of up to 60 meters. The cables are also 50 percent smaller, 80 percent lighter, and still stronger than comparable copper cables, making them ideal for recording studios and on location recording and editing. The cables are thin, light and remarkably tough – they can be bent, squeezed, and tangled.

Please let me know if you would be interested in scheduling some time to speak with the Optical Cables by Corning team at NAMM or to see a demonstration of the cables.

We hope to see you at Corning’s booth at NAMM — #1047!

Moogfest 2014 Asheville, North Carolina: Wednesday April 23 –Sunday April 27

Asheville, NC – October 16, 2013 — Moogfest is a celebration that honors the creativity and inventiveness of Moog Music founder Dr. Robert Moog, and pays tribute to the legacy of the analog synthesizer.

For over 50 years, Bob Moog and his company Moog Music have pioneered technology that has advanced popular music and culture, and ushered in a new era of artistic expression through sound and experimentation. It was in this very spirit that Moogfest was born. Now featuring an experimental lineup of daytime conference programming, curated by a soon-to-be-announced lineup of cultural, artistic and technological luminaries, and punctuated by nightly landmark music performances, Moogfest is a five-day event dedicated to the convergence of technology, art and music.

Since its inception in 2004, Moogfest has been a magnet for artists, engineers, and enthusiasts of Bob Moog and his legacy to meet, share, create and collaborate. When Moog brought the festival home to Asheville in 2008 it adopted a three-day multi-stage format to include contemporary bands and producers that exemplify the innovative spirit of Moog and electronic music. This year, Moogfest is further expanding its program to include a five-day innovation conference featuring leading futurist thinkers, inventors, entrepreneurs, designers, engineers, artists, and musicians from various fields that will expand the mind as well as entertain.

“We have evolved our thinking to create an event that truly celebrates the pioneering spirit of Bob Moog; uniting art, music, and innovative technology to explore the dimensions of creative expression. This is the heart of what makes Moog Music special and our fans around the world.” – Moog Music President, Mike Adams

Which is Cooler? Google Nexus 7? or Apple iPad Mini?

One of the options i was really waiting for and made me eager to buy the Google Nexus 7, second generation tablet was a rear facing camera. The iPad Mini and the Nexus both have a nice 5 mega pixel cameras for photos, and 1080p HD for video. Unfortunately in the back of my mind I still want my iMovie.

The Base Price of the Nexus 7 is more attractive.

Nexus 7 (16GB) $229.00 Price Tag
Powerful, portable and made for what matters to you.
Now thinner, lighter, and faster — Nexus 7 brings you the perfect mix of power and portability and features the world’s sharpest 7” tablet screen.

Google Nexus 7

The sharpest 7” tablet screen ever.
The world’s highest-resolution 7″ tablet puts over 2.3 million pixels in the palm of your hand. With 323 pixels packed into every inch, you can read text that’s sharper than the printed page, see images more vivid than the highest quality photo magazine, and watch videos come to life in vibrant 1080p HD.
Sound that surrounds.
Nexus 7 features dual stereo speakers and surround sound powered by Fraunhofer ¹ (the MP3 inventors), so you get rich and immersive audio. Hear it all more clearly with finely tuned volume boost technology that makes dialog and sound crisp and easier on the ears.
Fast and smooth.
Nexus 7 is made by ASUS and packs a serious punch. With a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM, everything runs faster, and high-performance rendering ensures 3D graphics are smooth and dynamic.

The iPad Mini’s price is a little higher, although you can find it cheaper around
town, say for about $299.00.

iPad mini 16GB From $329
It’s pencil thin and unbelievably light. And thanks to its beautiful 7.9-inch display, you can hold it in one hand.

ipad mini

I bought the Nexus 1st generation when they arrived on the market several months before iPad Mini. The Google Nexus 7 ASUS tablet was ahead of its time, in size, speed, quality and coolness. Style and quality had always been Apple’s.

The lack of the rear camera feature disappointed me. So now i have one and i am still
disappointed with the some of the application software.

Apple has always been The Cool Hip tech product to own. The loss of this status is shifting the gears to products like Samsung Galaxy & Goggle Nexus.

However as far as the Nexus is concerned I do not find the Jelly Bean software applications as stable and appetizing and nutritious as an Apple.

As much as I am trying to convenience myself that Android is the operating system of the
future, their software application products still do not have the stability, uniqueness and state of the art functionality of Apple’s software.

iPad mini at a glance.
The full iPad experience

Everything you love about iPad — the beautiful screen, fast and fluid performance, FaceTime and iSight cameras, thousands of amazing apps, 10-hour battery life2 — is everything you’ll love about iPad mini, too. And you can hold it in one hand.
Beautiful 7.9-inch display

Colors are vivid and text is sharp on the iPad mini display. But what really makes it stand out is its size. At 7.9 inches, it’s perfectly sized to deliver an experience every bit as big as iPad.
Over 375,000 apps3

Right from the start, apps made for iPad also work with iPad mini. They’re immersive, full-screen apps that let you do almost anything you can imagine. And they make iPad mini practically impossible to put down.
Ultrafast wireless

With advanced Wi-Fi that’s up to twice as fast as any previous-generation iPad and access to fast cellular data networks around the world, iPad mini lets you download content, stream video, and browse the web at amazing speeds.

I can not leave Apple’s iOS for jellybean quite yet. I can not find the equivalent
to Apple’s GarageBand in the Jellybean world, PocketBand is no comparison. The Apple
iWorks products are still more stable. I downloaded the free Kingston Office suite
for the Google tablet on the first day and my tablet crashed. Be careful what you
download from the Google Play Store that is “Free.” I had the same problem with
screen record, crashed and lots of popup advertisements, I do not receive on Apple iOS
products.
